Abstract
The proposal builds on a few years of yield trials showing a positive response, genotype-dependent, to increasing sowing density on grain and stover productivity in pearl millet. These trials were conceived from the realization that maize density increased three-fold in a century of breeding, implying that “density resistance” must have been bred-in unknowingly over time in maize. The proposal aims at identifying the genetic determinant of a positive response to an increase in sowing density in pearl millet, following preliminary promising data.
