Marker assisted selection and recently genomic selection has potential to increase the efficiency and accuracy of selection for the desired alleles in the breeding program in short time. Until today still chickpea miss to have a set of alleles which are applied in the breeding program around the world. The marker expected to be obtained in this project will help to establish a universal list (data base) of useful alleles for selection in chickpea. The phenotyping of the MAGIC population in multiple locations (Egypt for Fusarium wilt, Morocco for Ascochyta blight and Sudan heat and drought) will help to select the best allele through association mapping.
