Rainfall regimes at six sites in northern Syria are compared by fitting a model of daily rainfall for each site. The components of the model, the probability of rain and the mean amount of rain per rainday, vary systematically between sites. Statistics describing a number of agriculturally important rainfall characteristics are derived from the models. It is suggested that this method of comparing sites has advantages over the usual methods.en_US
