Abstract
This report summarizes the experience of Tunisia in terms of pastoral policies, development, and research during the previous 40 years. The work is divided into 5 themes, reflecting on: 1) The socioeconomic and environmental importance of pastoral territories; 2) Land tenure and pastoral regulation (including progress made so far on the pastoral code; 3) Governance and institutional frameworks of rangelands; 4) Techniques and practices of rangeland restoration and rehabilitation; and 5) Approaches adopted by the Tunisian Government for pastoral development in the previous four decencies. Themes 2 and 3 includes important inputs from IRA-ICARDA’s work under CRP PIM, CRP Livestock, and GIZ bilateral project on the development of “Tunisian Pastoral Code”. A policy note has been extracted from this work and published in this special issue of the "Arid Regions Review".
Ce Rapport résume l'expérience de la Tunisie en matière de politiques pastorales, de développement et de recherche au cours des 40 dernières années. Le travail est divisé en 5 thèmes, reflétant 1) l'importance socio-économique et environnementale des territoires pastoraux ; 2) la réglementation foncière et pastorale (y compris les progrès réalisés jusqu'à présent sur le code pastoral) ; 3) la gouvernance et les cadres institutionnels des parcours ; 4) les techniques et pratiques de restauration et de réhabilitation des parcours ; et 5) les approches adoptées par le gouvernement tunisien pour le développement pastoral au cours des quatre dernières décennies. Les thèmes 2 et 3 comprennent des apports importants du travail d'IRA-ICARDA dans le cadre des CRP PIM, CRP Livestock, et du projet bilatéral de la GIZ sur le développement du "code pastoral tunisien". Une note d'orientation politique a été extraite de ce travail et publiée dans ce numéro spécial de la revue "Revue des Régions Arides".
