Communication Team ICARDA. (31/1/2014). Final Report on Conservation Agriculture For Irrigated Areas In Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Abstract
To ensure wide and effective dissemination and adoption of the CA practices leaflets, poster and other
publications been distributed to farmers. Additionally project consultants have published 15 scientific
papers based on the results achieved under the project. Also, several manuscripts deal with CA in the
irrigated areas under preparation. Based on the results of the project, a Preliminary Guide on the Practice
of CA was prepared.
A signal variant of a no-till drill has been produced in a factory located in Karshi, near the Uzbekistan
project site. The newly-developed no-till drill is a direct result of the project, modifying a disc type
conventional seeder into a no-till drill, with the advantage over the models from Turkey being that this
type can handle residues and it follows the contours of each row independently and are not fixed.
The results from this project provided convincing evidence for farmers and policy makers to start
adoption of conservation agriculture in respective project countries. For instance, as a result of this
project, irrigated areas under CA reached 1,800 ha in Azerbaijan, 1,100 ha in Kazakhstan and 2,050 ha
in Uzbekistan in 2013.
