During the last five years, through a bottom-up approach involving scientists from national programs as partners, considerable progress has been made in the area of collaborative research, national research organization and management, human resource development and the promotion of research networks. Collaborative research is mainly aimed at: (a) varietal improvement and seed production, (b) on-farm water use efficiency and new agronomic practices, (c) feed and livestock management, (d) genetic resource conservation, and (e) strengthening of NARS.
