Abstract
Livelihoods and Natural Resources Management Institute (LNRMI) in collaboration with International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) had organised training programmes for the delegations from Afghanistan comprising policy makers, practitioners and researchers in order to improve food and nutritional security of Afghanistan. The purpose of this delegation was to engage in dialogue with Indian Policy makers with a view to strengthening relations and seek future potential scientific and technical collaborations with the state governments and central government in India. Considering the overall objectives of the training programmes, the design, content and modules of the training programmes were developed with inputs from ICARDA (including background materials, case studies, relevant reading materials, multimedia presentations, etc.). The materials draw upon Indian experience and provided a brief overview of different approaches adopted in India in the context of watershed development and covered various issues concerning watershed development in India. Moreover, local needs and priorities in the context of Afghanistan were identified and incorporated into the training modules. It is intended that the concepts and tools incorporated in these training modules be adapted and applied to country-specific needs and priorities for environmental and natural resource management. Apart from oral presentations, audio-visual presentations were also included in the training programme to make the training more relevant, useful and interesting.
