This factsheet is related to haemonchosis in sheep. Haemonchus contortus is an endoparasite of the sheep abomasum and is responsible of causing important economic losses in sheep flocks. Control measures are mainly chemical and there is strong evidence of a developed resistance by the parasite to the currently used molecules. Work currently undertaken by ICARDA and its partner in Tunisia ENMV aims at screening sheep breeds in Tunisia for genetic resistance to this parasite. The factsheet is destined to field practitioners to increase awareness about this parasitosis.
