Jordan is located between 32° and 29° N latitude and 39° and 35° E longitude. It is bordered by the Palestine Authority in the west, Iraq and Saudi Arabia in the east, Syria in the north and Saudi Arabia in the south. The country has a total area of 8.93 million hectares, of which arable land occupies 7.8%. Agricultural production is mainly rainfed (98%), and field crops (i.e. cereals, food and feed legumes), orchards (mainly olive trees) and vegetables occupy 65.5%, 25.5%, and 9.0%, respectively.
