Abstract
The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) 3rd Scientific
Conference was held from 9 to 12 March 2015 in conjunction with the fourth special
session of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST S-4). The conference addressed
the topic: “Combating desertification, land degradation and drought for poverty reduction
and sustainable development: the contribution of science, technology, traditional
knowledge and practices”. Pursuant to the provisions in decision 21/COP.11, this document contains: (a) a
report by the Bureau of the CST on the organization of the UNCCD 3rd Scientific
Conference; (b) the policy-oriented proposals developed by the SPI based on the outcomes
of the UNCCD 3rd Scientific Conference; and (c) emerging policy issues compiled by the
SPI which address future science-based activities of the UNCCD.
