Bezaiet Dessalegn. (31/12/2019). Social Differentiation and implications for growing cow pea in Burkina Faso.
The study in its exploration of some of the reasons behind farmers’ decision-making strategies offers important insights into the role of norms in shaping agricultural production systems. It highlights the effect of various social determinants such as age, sex and ethnicity in influencing farmers’ decisions to adopt or not adopt improved agricultural practices including the use of improved cowpea varieties. As such it identifies some key challenges and potential opportunities to link research in crop improvement, SLM, and large-scale dissemination of improved agricultural practices.
