Abstract

The study is structured as follows: The next, Chapter 1 describes the environment of West Georgia. Chapter 2 discusses the approach used to select the list of alternative crops, presents the list of crops, and assesses their suitability for the EU Market. Chapter 3 assesses the market situation of the crops in question in EU. Chapter 4 provides introductory information about trade relationship between Georgia and EU and illustrates selected aspects of the European food law and quality, and customs legislation. Finally, in the last chapter, some conclusions regarding the most promising crops are drawn and the basic conditions for their successful marketing in the EU are outlined. At the end, prospects for further studies and efforts are given. This study can only give an introductive overview of the possibilities and difficulties in finding suitable alternative crops and exporting into the EU from a third country as it was developed within a short-term consultancy and was undertaken to provide the basis for a more profound study.
