Abstract
This non-exhausted manual defines type, typology and the role of functional types of human agents in agricultural transitional research. It also lays out common methods for defining human agent's types. The key messages of this short manual are: (1) typology is not a type, but rather a science of types, (2) to be meaningful the identified types has to be functional, i.e. different human agent types have different preferences and behavior regarding the study decision variables, (3) human agent type is changeable when its defining factors change.
