Abstract
Characterization of the crop fallows using remote sensing for agricultural intensification and diversification in Eastern Gangetic plains. Time series satellite data (MODIS and Landsat) were used to map the length of crop fallows in days (duration between two crops in one year), starting date and ending date of crop fallows. These crop fallow maps will help in identification and delineation of the crop fallows and its hot-spots for intervention. This undergoing work to map crop fallows from 2000-2014 to understand long term dynamics, cropping pattern and fallows to develop suitable options for adaption of the short duration crops such as grain legumes, fodder crops during the fallow periods.
