Norma Mujica, Joshua Okonya Sikhu. (1/1/2016). Pest risk analysis for Tecia solanivora.
Tecia solanivora causes serious problems in potato crops in various regions of South America, Central America and the Canary Islands (Spain). Under favorable climatic conditions and poor management practices T. solanivora can cause complete yield loss in field and/or storage conditions. In 1999, it was introduced into Tenerife in the Canary Islands (Trujillo 2004). In America, Tecia continues to be distributed to other regions such as Mexico in 2011. Last report (November, 2015) indicate the presence of T. solanivora in mainland Spain, and it has apparently been introduced through international movement of seed potatoes. Potato is a very important crop in the PRA region and there are no records of this pest occurring in PRA area. Considering the damage which is reported, where this pest has been introduced a PRA is required for prevention, early detection and rapid response to this pest in the PRA area.
