Abstract

The innovation profile discussed flexible livestock grazing for soil and ecosystem restoration, highlighting its role in restoring rangelands and enhancing ecosystem health in Tunisia's semi-arid regions. It outlined the Gdel resting technique as a historical intervention for rangeland improvement, noting its limitations during unexpected climatic changes. In response, ICARDA developed flexible grazing criteria to optimize resource use, allowing pastoralists to adapt to varying environmental conditions. The initiative emphasized the importance of engaging local stakeholders, supported sustainable practices, and aimed to promote resilience in livestock systems amid climate variability.
