Abstract
As part of the Procasur-ICARDA collaboration under the SKIM project, the identification and
profile of local champions has been undertaken with the main purpose of stocktaking part
of the local knowledge shared by Local Champions who have performed across the three
SKIM Learning routes as knowledge service providers.
The Local champions are persons with valuable practical knowledge and abilities or skills
in their environment, who are recognized by their community or organization as
outstanding for the ability to lead processes of change with positive impacts in their
territory. Local champions are persuasive leaders, with good communication skills, able to
engage other stakeholders, and they can play a key role in trigger processes of innovation
within their communities and/or organizations. In the rural contexts, local champions are
members of community-based organizations, women's groups, farmers’ associations,
youth and indigenous peoples’ organizations, NGOs, local rural institutions, cooperatives,
among others.
