Integral valuation of ecosystem services and environmental benefits in livestock farming. Poster prepared for Tropentag: Explore opportunities. for managing natural resources and a better life for all, on 11-13 September 2024 in Vienna (Austria). 1 p.
The poster presented an integral valuation approach for assessing ecosystem services and environmental benefits in livestock farming. It highlighted the significance of livestock systems as socioecological entities that generate various ecosystem services, including food production and carbon sequestration. The study identified seven key ecosystem services and three environmental benefits, proposing a valuation strategy that incorporates ecological, economic, and social dimensions. Field studies in Colombia demonstrated the potential for this approach to inform decision-making and support sustainable livestock practices through economic instruments like carbon credits and Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES).
