dc.description.abstract | The “Plant Nutrient Management Under Pressurized Irrigation Systems in the Mediterranean Region” workshop offered a comprehensive review of current knowledge in fertilization systems, addressing water and plant nutrient requirements. It also discussed various technical and environmental issues related to fertigation. The workshop emphasized that sustainable irrigated agriculture is possible by applying the basic principles of good soil, water, and fertilizer management. It stressed the vital role of plant nutrients, especially phosphorus, in increasing crop yield and improving food quality. Furthermore, the workshop highlighted the pressing issues of increasing water scarcity, a growing population, and the urgent need to boost food production in Mediterranean countries in the Middle East and North Africa. It provided a platform for information-sharing and discussions on the effective and efficient use of fertilizers, soil, and water. The workshop also supported the IMPHOS activities in the region, which aim to promote intensive and sustained agriculture. | en_US |
