Significant progress has been made over the past 10 years in the application of remote sensing and GIS to characterize rangelands on a broad scale, as illustrated in three articles published in this issue of Dryland Pasture, Forage and Range Network News. These technological advances can give the impression that we are making progress in improving on the-ground management, when in reality we are only fine-tuning the precision of a useful management tool.en_US
