Abstract
In 1996, a key activity was the development of a new Medium-Term Plan (MTP) for 1998-2000. This plan aimed to enhance food security while also protecting the natural resource base in the fragile dry areas. The process involved collaboration with national partners and stakeholders, including scientists, managers, the Board of Trustees of ICARDA, and members of the Technical Advisory Committee. Water is the most crucial natural resource in dry areas and is given the highest priority in ICARDA's research. Additionally, biodiversity and land, as essential natural resources, are closely linked to water availability and receive significant attention in our research efforts.
