Abstract
This research-for-development initiative provides a practical and comprehensive resource on seed and seedling management techniques crucial for successful rehabilitation projects in dryland ecosystems. It highlights key practices such as seed collection, storage, and processing, with a focus on preserving genetic diversity and optimizing germination potential. The guide also offers detailed guidelines for nursery establishment, covering site selection, infrastructure setup, and management practices to produce healthy seedlings. Special emphasis is placed on seed quality testing and dormancy-breaking techniques to improve germination rates and foster robust seedling development. Additionally, it explores the selection and management of nursery stock types, emphasizing a balance between root and shoot growth to enhance survival and adaptability in arid and semi-arid regions. Designed for practitioners, this guide supports the implementation of effective, science-based strategies for ecological restoration in drylands.
