In a traditional society like Afghanistan where pervading social and cultural norms place restrictions on the independence of women, providing support to female farmers is never straightforward and resistance can often be significant. Against the odds, ICARDA has adopted an effective outreach model, successfully including women in its capacity-strengthening initiatives. The result: empowerment, higher productivity, and additional household income.en_US
