Abstract
The presentation identified and valued ecosystem services and environmental benefits in livestock farming, focusing on findings from field studies in Colombia and Kenya. It highlighted key ecosystem services such as food production, carbon storage, and microclimatic regulation, as well as environmental benefits like methane emissions reduction and water use reduction. An integral valuation strategy was proposed to incorporate these values into economic evaluations of sustainable interventions. The results underscored the importance of such valuations for informed decision-making regarding restoration initiatives and the design of economic instruments like carbon credits and Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES). This was presented for the Global Bioeconomy Summit on 23-24 October 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya.
