In Ethiopia, sheep fattening is a transformative enterprise offering sustainable income, job creation and risk management for over 27,000 young people and women across the central, southern, southwestern, Amhara, Oromia and Addis Ababa areas. The market-oriented sheep fattening program offers a comprehensive suite of innovations aimed at increasing productivity and fostering business-oriented marketing opportunities. It is supported by a community of practice platform incorporating a livestock office, universities, the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research, national research centres, media, microfinance institutions, cooperative offices, enterprise offices and the private sector.
